NORTHERN EMERALDS People often see these as the harder of the two local of emeralds to keep. My experience has been the complete opposite with the northers showing a better appetite and less likelihood of constipation. The neonates are born in green, brick red and very ocasionally even a yellowish. An established captive bred neonate makes a good captive. Wild caught specimens should be avoided at all costs. Their scientific name is Corralus caninus and refers to the fact that for their body size they have the pargest teeth of any non-venomous snake.
